What is a Bone Graft?

Types of Grafting Materials

We use different types of bone grafts depending on your specific needs and physical condition:

Autograft: This material comes from your own body, usually from another part of your jaw. It is often the best choice since it contains your own living cells.
Allograft: This is human bone that has been carefully processed in a lab to make it safe and sterile for use in other patients’ jaws.

Types of Bone Grafts

Placing the graft: This is the core part of the procedure. We carefully place the grafting material into the area of bone loss. We often use a protective membrane to hold everything in place, ensuring the new bone has a safe space to grow without interference from the surrounding tissue.
Closing and healing: After the graft is securely placed, we close the incision with a few small, precise stitches. We’ll guide you through the aftercare instructions to ensure your recovery goes smoothly and quickly. Over the next few months, your body will naturally integrate this material, making your jaw strong enough for a permanent implant.
